“Our initial enthusiasm for the RFA technique was tempered by the need for repeat treatment of the saphenous vein during the same operation in some cases, the need for continuous monitoring of catheter temperature, and the need for an irrigation system for the ablation. [The] EVLT® laser fiber is less expensive than the RFA catheter, the pullback treatment time is shorter, and the saphenous obliteration rates are likely higher.”
